Rakher upovas” is a traditional festival of fasting and prayer that is observed by some Hindu devotees in Bangladesh.
It is also known as “Kartik Brata”, “Gosai’s fast”, or “Ghee Lamp Lighting”.

It is observed by devotees of Baba Lokenath on every Saturday and Tuesday during the last 15 days of the month of Kartik. It is said that Baba Loknath had advised people to observe a fast during the month of Kartik to avoid various life-threatening diseases. Since then, the festival is celebrated by devotees of Sanatan Dharma every year on every Saturday and Tuesday of the last 15 days of the month of Kartik.

One of the biggest centers of the festival is the Bardi Loknath Brahmachari Ashram in Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj, and the Loknath Ashram in Swamibagh in the capital,Dhaka,Bangladesh.

This festival is celebrated every year. Devotees from far and wide come here and gather. I got a chance to visit this holy place from my photography school called Pathshala South Asian Media Institute with more talented photographers from different country. I never experienced this kind of event before that’s why my work experience was great. And I learned few tips and trics from others photographers.
